Information Stored Locally on Your Device

LinguaRead stores all user data locally on your device using SwiftData. This includes:

• Books and Reading Progress: Books you add to your library, reading positions, bookmarks, and reading history
• Learning Data: Flashcards (words, translations, and examples), study sessions, review schedules, and learning statistics
• User Preferences: Language settings, reading preferences, learning goals, and app configuration
• Premium Status: Your subscription status via Apple's StoreKit framework

Important: All this data remains exclusively on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do NOT collect personal information (name, email, phone number)
• We do NOT track your location
• We do NOT access your contacts
• We do NOT collect any analytics or usage data
• We do NOT use cookies or tracking technologies

Data Processed Through Third-Party Services

Translation Services:

When you use the translation feature, the following data is sent to our backend language model service:

• Selected word or text for translation
• Surrounding context from your book (to provide accurate contextual translation)

This data is:

• Processed only to provide the translation
• NOT stored permanently on our servers
• NOT associated with your personal identity
• NOT used for any purpose other than providing you the translation

Book Store:

When browsing the book store, your device connects to our Cloudflare Workers service to:

• Retrieve the list of available books
• Download book files (EPUB format)

No personal information is collected during this process.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information stored on your device to:

• Display your library and reading progress
• Provide personalized learning through spaced repetition
• Track your study statistics and streak
• Sync your premium subscription status with Apple

Data Storage and Security

• Local Storage: All user data is stored securely on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework
• iCloud Backup: If you have iCloud backup enabled, your app data may be backed up to your personal iCloud account (controlled by your iOS settings)
• No Remote Servers: We do not maintain user accounts or cloud storage for your personal data

Third-Party Services

Apple App Store & StoreKit

Our premium subscription feature uses Apple's StoreKit framework. Apple's privacy policy governs the information collected during purchase transactions. We receive only the subscription status, not your payment information.

Backend Language Model Service

For translations, we use a backend AI service that:

• Processes text temporarily to generate translations
• Does not permanently store your reading content
• Operates in compliance with data protection regulations

Children's Privacy

LinguaRead does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is designed for general audiences learning languages through reading.

Your Rights and Choices

You have complete control over your data:

• Delete Data: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device
• Export Flashcards: You can export your flashcards at any time through the app's export feature
• Disable Translation: You can choose not to use the translation feature if you prefer not to send text to our backend service

Premium Subscription

• Subscription is managed through Apple's App Store
• We do not store your payment information
• Subscription can be canceled through your iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions
• Free users have a limit of 5 translations per day
• Premium users have unlimited translations and early access to advanced AI models

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
• Displaying a notification in the app (for significant changes)

Data Retention

• Data is retained locally on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app
• Translation requests are processed in real-time and not permanently stored
• Premium subscription status is managed by Apple's StoreKit

International Users

LinguaRead is available worldwide. If you use the app outside your country of residence, please note that your data (stored locally on your device) is subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where you are located.
