iPhone, iPad & Mac Application

Squeeze

Get gigabytes back without losing your videos. Squeeze compresses the videos on your iPhone, iPad and Mac so they take a fraction of the space. Pick a video, choose how small you want it, see the predicted size before you start. Nothing ever leaves your device.

Overview

Why Squeeze?

Video eats storage faster than anything else on a phone. A minute of 4K is a few hundred megabytes, a holiday is tens of gigabytes, and "Storage Almost Full" arrives right when you want to record something.

Squeeze finds the videos that take the most space and shrinks them on the device itself. You see the predicted size as you adjust the settings, you preview the compressed copy next to the original, and only then do you decide whether to keep the original. No upload, no account, no waiting on a server.

One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and a native Mac app. The Mac version is not a scaled-up phone screen: it has a sortable table, drag-and-drop import and a proper settings window.

Features

From Full to Free

See What You'll Save Before You Start

Squeeze scans your photo library and sorts videos by size, so the biggest ones come first. Filter by 4K, 1080p, screen recordings or anything over 50 MB. As you move the quality slider or change the resolution, the predicted output size updates with it.

You're in Control

A quality slider from smallest file to best picture. Resolution: original, 1080p, 720p or 480p, and never upscaled. HEVC (H.265) for the smallest files or H.264 for maximum compatibility. Cap the frame rate at 30 or 24 fps, or drop the audio track entirely. Set your own defaults once and they apply to every video.

Safe by Design

The original stays untouched until you decide otherwise. Preview the compressed copy next to the original, then save it back to Photos or export it to Files. Removing the original is offered only after the compressed copy has been saved, only if you ask, and always through the system confirmation dialog.

Track the Space You've Freed

The home screen keeps a running total of the space you have reclaimed and a list of recent compressions with before-and-after sizes, so you can see the app paying for itself.

Any Video File

Not everything lives in Photos. Open a video from Files, from a download, or drag it into the Mac window. MOV, MP4 and the rest of what Apple's media stack can read, out as portable MP4.

A Real Mac App

The same binary and the same purchase, with a Mac interface: a sortable video table, drag-and-drop import, a recent panel, and settings under ⌘, where a Mac user expects them.

Batch Mode

With Pro, select as many videos as you like and clean up a whole album in one go. Progress is shown per video, and a batch can be cancelled at any point without losing what has already finished.

Offline and Private

No account, no ads, no analytics, no network requests. Scanning, compression, preview and saving all happen on your device. Your videos are never uploaded anywhere.

Under the Hood

Built With

Swift SwiftUI AVFoundation PhotoKit StoreKit 2 HEVC Swift Concurrency

Compression runs through an AVAssetReader and AVAssetWriter pipeline rather than a preset export, so resolution, codec, average bitrate and frame rate are all honoured exactly. The size prediction comes from the same bitrate model the encoder is given, which is why the number on screen matches the file you get.

The library scan and the transcoder are isolated from the main actor, so a large photo library and a multi-gigabyte source never freeze the interface. Working copies live in a temporary workspace that is purged at every launch, and originals in the photo library can only be removed through PhotoKit's own confirmation dialog.
