PDF Converter is published by an independent Apple platforms developer (referred to in this policy as "we", "our", or "us"). You can reach us by email at [email protected].
This Privacy Policy describes how the PDF Converter & Maker application for iPhone and iPad, together with its Share and Action extensions (the "App"), handles information.
Short version: we do not collect personal data about you. Your documents are scanned, recognized, converted, signed, organized and compressed on your device and are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. The only time the App goes online on its own behalf is when you ask it to convert a web page, and then it contacts only that website.
We do not collect, store on our servers, sell, or share personal information from the App. In particular, we do not collect:
Because we do not collect personal data through the App, we do not maintain a user database. The App's App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected".
The camera is used only when you tap Scan. Scanning uses Apple's document camera, which finds the page edges and corrects perspective on your device. Scanned pages go straight into the App. They are not saved to your photo library and are not transmitted anywhere.
The App may ask for permission to add images to your photo library. It is used only when you choose to save exported JPG or PNG pages to Photos. This permission lets the App add images; it does not let the App read your library.
When you convert photos to a PDF or import a picture of your signature, you pick the images in Apple's system photo picker. The App receives only the photos you select and has no other access to your library.
You can change or revoke any permission at any time in the system Settings. The rest of the App keeps working without them.
You can open documents from Files, iCloud Drive or another document provider, from another app through "Open in", or by dragging them in on iPad. The App reads the selected file with the permission the system grants for that file. Files opened in place stay where they are; the App keeps a system bookmark so it can reopen them later. Files you create or import are stored in the App's own Documents folder, which you can also see in the Files app under On My iPhone or On My iPad. When you export a result, you choose the destination through the system share sheet or save dialog.
The App includes a Share extension ("Convert to PDF") and an Action extension ("Open in PDF Converter"). When you use them from another app, the images, files or web link you share are copied into a folder shared only between the App and its extensions on your device (an App Group). Shared images are turned into a PDF on the spot. The App picks the items up the next time it opens, adds them to your library, and removes them from the shared folder. Nothing is uploaded at any step.
If you enter or share a web address and ask the App to convert it to PDF, the App loads that page once using Apple's WebKit, the same engine as Safari. This is the only network request the App makes. The request goes directly from your device to that website; it does not pass through us. Like any website you visit, that site and the services it loads may receive your IP address, device and browser information, and may set cookies, which WebKit can keep on your device. Their own privacy policies apply. We never learn which pages you convert.
The App contains support for reading a small static settings file (such as the size of the free daily allowance) from a web address controlled by us. In the current version this is switched off and the App uses the values built into it. If it is switched on in a future version, the App would only download the file; it would send no information about you or your documents, and this policy would be updated.
Everything the App does with your documents happens on your device, using Apple's frameworks: PDFKit and Core Graphics for pages, VisionKit for scanning, Vision for text recognition, WebKit for laying out Office, iWork, RTF, text and web content, PencilKit for drawing signatures, and Core Image for scan filters. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are read by the App's own code. Work in progress is kept in a temporary folder inside the App's sandbox that is cleared when the job finishes and again when the App launches. No page, image, recognized text or file name is transmitted anywhere.
The App stores the following locally so it can provide its features. None of it is sent to us.
UserDefaults; daily counters reset at local midnight.You can delete documents and saved signatures inside the App, or delete all local App data by uninstalling the App.
The App offers Shortcuts actions to convert, compress and merge documents. They run through Apple's App Intents framework on your device, with the files you pass to them. Apple's own privacy policy applies to Siri and the Shortcuts app.
Pro subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are sold and managed by Apple through the App Store. Apple is the merchant of record. We do not see your payment details, Apple Account, billing address, or full name. The App receives from Apple only a confirmation of which purchase, if any, is active. After a few successful exports the App may ask Apple to show its standard rating prompt, at most once every 90 days; Apple decides whether it appears. Apple's own privacy policy applies to App Store purchases, subscription management, purchase restoration, ratings, iCloud backup, the camera, the photo picker, the document picker, the share sheet, Siri, and other system services.
When you convert a web page, your device connects directly to that website, as described under Web Pages above.
The App does not include analytics, crash reporting, advertising, attribution, or tracking SDKs, and it has no third-party code libraries. The only outgoing links are to Apple's subscription management page, Apple's standard end user license agreement, and this Privacy Policy, which open at your request.
The App is a general-purpose utility rated 4+ on the App Store. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and it is not enrolled in the App Store Kids category. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us; because we do not collect personal data, there is normally nothing for us to delete from our systems.
Depending on where you live, you may have privacy rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and similar laws. These rights can include access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection to processing.
Because we do not collect or hold personal data from the App, we have no personal data to provide, correct, delete, or transfer in response to such a request. You still control the App's local data:
California residents: we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we have no categories of personal information to disclose because we do not collect any through the App.
The App relies on security features built into iOS and iPadOS, including app sandboxing, camera and photo permissions, document picker permissions, security-scoped file access, the Keychain, data protection, and Apple's StoreKit transaction verification. Saved signatures are additionally encrypted by the App. PDFs you protect with a password are encrypted by PDFKit, and the App does not store that password. No method of local electronic storage can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure. However, the App does not transmit your data to our servers, because it has none.
The App may be available through the Apple App Store in multiple countries. Because all processing happens on your device and we do not collect personal data through the App, we do not transfer your App data across borders on our side.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new App functionality or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top. The basic commitment that the App does not collect your personal data or upload your documents will not change without clear notice.
